MiTA Myanmar Investment Summit, 25 Sept 2014 @ UMFCCI

 

Mr. San Thein started his career with the Central Bank of Myanmar and served at the Research Department of the Central Bank of Myanmar for over 20 years.  Leaving the Central Bank of Myanmar, he joined a Hong Kong based research firm, Irrawaddy Adviser and was involved in preparing sector wise research reports on various economic sectors of Myanmar. When the research company left Myanmar in 2002, he joined Myanmar Oriental Bank Ltd. as a General Manager and latter the Small and Medium Industrial Development Bank Ltd as a Senior Adviser.

 

 

In June 2013, Mr. San Thein joined Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, a German Development Cooperation.

 

 

He still continues to be Senior Adviser with the Small and Medium Industrial Development Bank. Recognizing that small and medium enterprises are the back-bone of the economy, he devotes his time and energy to SME financing. He tries to disseminate the knowledge and awareness of SME development by making presentations on SME-Finance at various workshops held in Yangon and other major cities in Myanmar. He contributed his knowledge on banking, finance and insurance (BFI) sector in Myanmar while preparing a report on Myanmar’s Financial Sector by GIZ.

 

 

Mr. San Thein also contributes articles on banking and finance to the New Light of Myanmar. Some of his articles are:

SME Financing with special experience of the Small & Medium Industrial Development Bank, presented at the seminar on ‘Forum for Development of Small & Medium Enterprises for Poverty Alleviation’ jointly organized by MDRI, CSIS and Mingalar Myanmar on March 17, 2013 at the Sedona Hotel in Yangon

Mr. San Thein obtained a bachelor degree in commerce specializing in banking, finance and insurance from the Yangon Institute of Economics in 1968.

The Small and Medium Industrial Development Bank is a specialized bank for SME financing in Myanmar.
